Tehran art auction sells $3 million

The 6th round of Tehran Auction has grossed more than $3 million during its second annual sale at the Espinas Palace Hotel in Tehran.

The Tehran Auction of artwork held on December 23 hosted 120 works created by 112 Iranian illustrators, painters and calligraphers.

The highest sold works of Contemporary Iranian Art were created by Reza Derakhshani, Hossein Zendehroudi, Kourosh Shishegaran, Monir Farmanfarmaian, Farideh Lashai, Bahman Mohasses, Manouchehr Yektaei, and Farhad Moshiri.

Farhad Moshiri’s ‘Dark Digits on White Background’, a mixed media on canvas produced in 2002, went under the hammer for final price of $218,000.

The second spot went to ‘A Player of Flute’, the cast in bronze prestigious work by Bahman Mohasses which was sold for $154,000.

The third place was shared by two artworks each with $125,000, including Reza Derakhshani’s oil and glitter on canvass painting ‘Green Hunting Green’ and Farhad Moshiri’s ‘Sleep Delicate Flower’, a mixed media on canvas earned.

This round of the program went on with a special feature which was hosting first-artist works.

The auction was used to be held in June every year, but the 5th edition that hosted 80 art works by 50 classical and modern artists was presented in August 2016.

The auction director, Alireza Sami-Azar said the auction is scheduled to be held in separate editions to provide opportunity for younger generation of artists and illustrators.
